Chris Birkett

  • I am a retired engineer who volunteers for three and a half days a week for various organisations.
  • I have dug as a volunteer with Rick Peterson and the Archaeology Students at UCLan in the Trough of Bowland area in 2014 and 2015. Unfortunately, apart from the dig at Ribchester, which I don't fancy, they are not excavating in the local area this year. Then I spotted the Morecambe Bay Barrow excavation that you are organising. It is local and I have not dug a Barrow before.
  • I went and helped wet-sieve bags of soil. Seeing the number of, and the minute size of, the bones that appeared out of the mud was fascinating. It reminded me of an hour I spend a few years ago dissecting owl pellets.
